I’m Kristy, founder of Keep It Light Home Organizing.

I’m a Colorado native, mom of two, who lights up at the opportunity to make sense out of a messy space. I first learned the skill of organizing from my grandparents, who had a successful Estate Sales business here in Wheat Ridge, Colorado while I was growing up.

I clearly remember watching the jam-packed homes, garages, and basements filled with decade’s worth of belongings transform into spaces with categorized items ready for sale. I learned how to fold a hand-embroidered hanky like no other, but I also learned that most people’s treasures become other people’s clutter.

No matter what job I've had in the last 20 years, I've always been the person who was asked to organize the files, stage the showroom, rearrange the office, or write the employee manual. Organizing is a strength I love to use, no matter where I am!

However, once I had children I became overwhelmed by our stuffThe bags of hand-me-down clothes from friends and the new toys, stuffies, and art supplies gifted from family members accumulated so fast!

Our tiny townhome became my real-life Tetris game and I would spend entire weekends rearranging my girls’ bedroom trying to get everything to fit and still look tidy. I was overwhelmed and felt guilty at the thought of getting rid of anything, because everything was gifted by a loved one.

I was so ashamed of the constant mess that there were several years when the only people invited over were the ones I believed wouldn’t judge my ability to “keep house”.

After years of scrambling to get my home under control, and countless hours studying organization & decluttering techniques, I finally learned that organizing clutter doesn’t work. If I was ever going to have quality time with my kids, go out with friends, or start my dream business, I would need to get rid of the stuff that was getting in the way.

I learned through the principles of minimalism that:

less stuff = less time cleaning

Less stuff = more time living

Less stuff = more brain space

And most importantly, I learned that less stuff = less anxiety, overwhelm, and isolation.

Working one-on-one with people as a mindset coach and organizing expert lights me up! I specialize in helping people through the physical, emotional, and mental process of decluttering and downsizing and I can't wait to work with you!
